"In 1995 when I opened the doors of my first business, Maria Grace Aromatherapy & Bath Shop in Takoma Park, Maryland, there were no resources to help people like me. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I didn't have investors. I had very little cash saved up and my professional colleagues thought I was nuts when I left a well paying job to open my store. I could not afford a business consultant, so I had no one to talk to in confidence about how to make my little venture generate enough cash to keep me out of the poor house. So I ended up in the poor house. But I never quit, and along the way, I developed a keen "sixth sense" about what you can do to avoid the mistakes I made.
